Pyramid Breweries introduces Spring Seasonal Rollick
SEATTLE – January 15, 2009 – Pyramid Breweries, home of the award winning Pyramid Hefeweizen and the 2008 Brewery of the Year1, introduces Rollick™, an adventurous new spring seasonal beer adding to Pyramid’s collection of seasonal ales and lagers.
Rollick™ is an Amber Lager that has a smooth malty character balanced with a gracious quantity of hops and a crisp clean finish that make this copper colored seasonal the perfect beer to celebrate your first rollicking spring adventure.
The introduction of a new spring seasonal will expand Pyramid’s seasonal beers to a total of four releases in 2009. Since the creation of our first seasonal offering in 1986, Snow Cap®, Pyramid has been a leader in the seasonal segment. “The craft consumer is looking for flavor and variety. With Rollick™, we are building off the success of our seasonal beers and giving our active and adventurous customers the variety they demand and the perfect beer to enjoy after their first “rollicking spring adventure,” said Mike Brown, recently appointed President for Pyramid Breweries.
In 2008 Seasonal beers overtook pale ales to become the largest style segment in the craft category accounting for 18% of total craft sales4. Seasonals were also one of the fastest growing craft segments. During 2008 dollar sales increased 25% over prior year5. Pyramid’s seasonal beer lineup ranked among the Top-5 seasonal beers in the total US in 20084 and Snow Cap was the number one winter seasonal beer in the Seattle market3.
Amber beers are also extremely popular. According to IRI (Information Resources Inc.), the Amber Ale and Amber Lager categories combined are larger then the seasonal segment in the US. Combining the two categories (amber ales and amber lagers) amber beers make up 20% of total craft sales growing 6% annually2.
In addition to being the perfect beer to celebrate a rollicking spring adventure, RollickTM also pairs well with food and is a great beer to cook with. Cooking with craft beer is unique because of the full flavors and distinct aromas that craft beer can deliver. Rollick will be featured on the “Fresh Sheet” special menus in our Alehouse. Rollick inspired dishes include:
- Fresh mussels sautéed in RollickTM with shallots, tomatoes, oranges and a garlic cream sauce.
- Scallops on the half-shell broiled in an orange RollickTM butter and panko butter topped with an orange-garlic gremolata
- Mixed green spring salad tossed in our sweet and spicy RollickTM vinaigrette with red cabbage, candied walnuts, pickled shallots, tomatoes
Enjoy one of these dishes as well as many other Pyramid inspired food pairings at one of our four west coast Pyramid Alehouse locations and at the MacTarnahan’s Taproom in Portland.
Rollick™ will be available February through April. Sold in both bars and retail stores, Rollick™ will be offered in draft and in package in 6-packs and 12-packs of 12oz. bottles and 22oz bottles. Rollick™ will be available anywhere Pyramid’s other award winning beers can be found (with exception of Texas).
